This is first and foremost a symbolic work for Lofilo, since it is a temporal passage between the past and the future, it is his reawakening to art, which is not the metabolisation of impulses derived from other artists, but the materialisation through the collage of the awareness of the innate idleness of the human being and the will, the desire which dominates and solicits the artist himself to creation.
Lofilo hears the call, shaking off the old and outworn clichés about the common man, he provokingly uses cuttings from various magazines through the common technique of the collage, which nevertheless marks the start of a revolutionary new direction for the artist. The unknown represented by the uncertainty of the future doesn't daunt him, by now he has abandoned the long hibernation in which he was confined and unhinges conventional parameters; he abandons oblivion and sets off upon his chameleon-like future, his incessant experimentation. The detestable alarm clock takes on a positive significance, it is the stimulus necessary to stir the soul, the personification of Schopenhauer's will, which underlies Lofilo's current reflection, breaking out in the works of the young artist, without bounds, driven solely by freedom.
