Iron becomes the undisputed protagonist of the Barcelona period of the artist, when the fashionable life of the Spanish city influences him positively and leads him to a brief and intense reflection, projected towards sculptural creation. Lofilo grasps the multiplicity of the material; the iron that he casually collects in the winding lanes of Barcelona undergoes a manipulation. It is effectively moulded manually by the artist, soldered and resoldered in an evolution which concludes with the acclaimed and visually tangible form of a musical instrument.
The pieces of iron appear like musical notes on the score of the canvas, they are objectified in a sculpture which seems a distant reminiscence of Duchamps' ready-made. Lofilo loves to recycle discarded materials, inventing new forms and bringing back to life in a lyrical and poetic manner the rejects which we carelessly disdain, failing to appreciate their intrinsic preciousness.
